The Beginning and Beyond
my passion for parenting
I was raised by a single mother. We lived at/below the poverty level throughout my childhood. My parents divorced when I was an infant. My mom moved my sister and I across the country. And It wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I saw my biological father again.
I believe wholeheartedly that my mom did the very best she could with the programming and tools she had. And while she had good intentions and clearly loved me, her approach to parenting fell into more of the ‘power-over’ or authoritarian category.
I was, of course, aware as a child that I didn’t like being punished. I didn’t like being shamed for having feelings. I remember wishing she’d just talk to me in a calm manner when conflict surfaced.
I wasn’t conscious of it then, but it was during my childhood that my passion for parenting was born.
Breaking the generational pattern in my family has required that I be very intentional. That is, seeking out specific parenting education that aligns with my values has been a priority in my life since my first child was born.
I love being a parent coach because, well, I truly enjoy helping others…And I’m passionate about parenting! I help parents/caretakers have healthy relationships with children rooted in connection.
What an honor it is to be able to help people do what I believe to be the most important job in the world: parent! I also love that children are obviously helped, too, when I help their parents.
When I’m not coaching, I can be found navigating and appreciating life with my family, at a yoga class, walking and picking up trash on the beach, reading, writing, gazing up at the sky in search of hawks, gardening…and you guessed it, learning more about how to be a better parent!
